The Portsmouth Boat Club will host the annual Merrimac Memorial Regatta on May 28, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There will be a Laser start. Entry is $10. Trophies will be awarded for each class. This year we are offering camping and/or boat storage for out of town competitiors. Portsmouth is in the heart of hampton Roads near VA Beach and Norfolk and 2 hours from NC's Outer Banks.
The regatta will take place at Portsmouth City Park in the Western Branch of the Elizabeth River. Other invited fleets are Mutineer, Force 5, and Moth. There is also a Portsmouth Yardstick fleet.
I am trying hard to make this regatta grow. Last year we had 4 lasers. I hope for a lot more this year. Traditionally this has been a laid back "family oriented" regatta. There is a cookout for lunch and then more racing afterwards. I hope some of you will plan to attend. Check out our website http://portsmouthboatclub.org/pbc_merrimac.htm

Is anyone thinking of coming to the Merrimac? I am trying to get an idea of how many boats we should expect.

I think there are similarites but I really don't know much about the UK moths. The classic moth boat that will be attending the Merrimac is a development class started a long time ago in Elizabeth City, NC (just down the road from us).
