It would not work too well due to it being unstayed. The bend to windward would also do very nasty things to the sail shape. It is unlikely to snap though.
Also to answer your question, I've often though about trying to create a trapeze laser. The only solution I have come up with would be to have the trapeze points be at the top of the lower mast section, as the lower section is quite strong so I think it could handle the strain. The mast step is a whole other problem though.... My advice- buy a Musto Skiff if you want a single handed trapeze (and awesome) boat.
Also take a look at this video, some kids down in Florida managed to put an I-14 rig on a laser. Results are spectacular.
