The screws holding my old style rudder mounting hardware on the deck are completely stripped out. There is nothing to screw into as the wood block inside seems to be rotted. I want to put in an inspection port so that I can remove and replace the block but I don't want to run into any foam blocks that I have heard so much about. What is the best location for an inspection port in that area? Is there an easier way to fix a problem of this sort?

In the back of the boat it's hard not to at least catch a bit of a block. We always mount one ar close to the upper mount as possible on the boat's center line. As for an easier solution, nope you have to get inside and replace the wood.
