We are about to start the events season of the year 2008.

Now it is the appropriate time to renew your ISCA membership, if you have not done it yet, and to enjoy all the benefits the Sunfish Class has prepared for you.

Each recognized NSCA now have the option to publish information about activities, events, news, plans, etc. in their own section of the ISCA web site, completely free of charge. Feel free to publish pictures, videos, documents, etc. of the events from your country using the easy tools from our web site. For assistance you may contact Brian McGinnis
([email protected]), our Webmaster, who is ready to help and teach you how to implement these tools. If you prefer to have your own website, we will just set a link to it.

A new Internet Online System is being developed to automate the membership registration process and to optimize the communication between the Class Office and the members, as well as among the members. Initially, it will allow one to register or renew your membership including payment, to update your information, to access the membership directory, and to receive monthly Newsletters from the Class Office. Later, it will allow you to access an on-line calendar of events, to register & pay the entry fee of the events, and more…

The 1st Sunfish International Junior Championship finally will take place in Lake Bluff, IL, September 5-7, with a limited participation of 20 sailors. This is part of the Strategic Plans for the development of the Juniors in the Sunfish Class. This event will soon become the “Sunfish Junior World Championship”, once ISAF approves it. The support from all NSCAs
to send at least 1 sailor is critical for the success of this initiative, created to generate enthusiasm to all Junior sailors, very important for the long term development of the Class. ISCA is now open to receive bids from any NSCA interested in hosting this event in the following years… As you can see in the NOR, it is a very affordable event format for any host.

The 2008 Sunfish Worlds Championship will be held in Buffalo Canoe Club, August 23-29. Please note this year there is a limited participation of 72 sailors, to reduce the amount of wildcards participants, strengthening the value of the qualification regattas and ensuring a higher competition level in the event. So, quickly register in the event, before we ran
out of spots!

The traditional Sunfish North American Championship & Junior North Americans organized by USSCA will be held in Erie Yacht Club, July 13-18. It promises to be a memorable event, so do not miss it.

The Sunfish South American & Caribbean Championship is being discussed with Martinique Sunfish Class, to be held in November… More information will be provided as it develops.

We kindly ask all NSCAs to send videos, pictures, regatta results and articles to our Webmaster and to Peggy Malecki ([email protected]), our Windward Leg editor, to better promote the Class. As you can see, the Class needs a lot of material to produce promotional videos and articles, to be able to generate enthusiasm and to attract new
members…

Let’s work together to develop the Class!!

Smooth Sailing!

USSCA President Clinton Edwards has prepared a letter of announcement to explain some exciting happenings going on regarding the relationship of the Sunfish Class with US Sailing:
Clinton Edwards said:
To all USSCA and USSAILING members,

This year, 2008, will be the first year in a very long time that Sunfish will be the boat
used in U.S. Singlehanded Sailing Championship for the George D. O’Day Trophy.

This is a ladder event. One must qualify from your Area Quarter Finals and/or Area Semi
Finals. The Championship is scheduled for August 6-10, 2008 and will be hosted by
Sayville Yacht Club in Blue Point, New York.

I attended many USSAILING Annual and Spring meetings. At these meetings, I
represented the Class in the One-Design Council and petitioned the U.S Singlehanded
Championship Committee to include Sunfish. We are on the schedule for this year and for
2012. As a result, the 2008 U.S. Champion of Champions is being held in Sunfish.

Please attend your Quarter and/or Semi Finals to make a statement to USSAILING to
continue the rotation of Sunfish in the U.S. Singlehanded Championship. All results from
Quarter and Semi Finals are sent to USSAILING. Let’s show USSAILING what Sunfish is
all about!
