Laser Beginner Racing Tips and Suggestions

Hello All,

I'm new to both this forum and somewhat to the Laser. I have a '76 that was left in my parents garage 20 something years ago. The boat has done extremely well and a couple of years ago I began sailing it. I have a fair amount of experience racing both big boats and dinghies, but I'm looking for tips specific to the Laser.

I've been looking at different Vang and Cunningham/Outhaul upgrades, feeling kind of clueless as to what I should be going for. I also don't have a great concept of how the vang is supposed to be "properly" used in a laser. I just know that it's not the same as other boats.

Would love to hear some suggestions for rigging and strategy for upwind and downwind sailing!
