Laser 2 questions...

I bought a used 1980 ish laser 2. I noticed that it doesn't have a rudder lock clip to keep the rudder from lifting up and out. I ordered the clip, would it be ok to drill some holes and install the clip, I do not see any signs of any previous holes.

Also, the back top of the hull, where one can sit is very soft when u press down on it, the rest of the hull is ok. Can anything be done to strengthen it or is the boat damaged goods?

Look below at page 11, part 41 of the Laser 2 manual. It indicates a rudder spring clip that should have been standard on the rudder itself. Maybe they removed the clip, filled and painted over the holes. I would look closely.

As far as softness. Here's an upside down picture of what's inside, aft cockpit

Whats inside? Nothing for support. And not much glass either. I learned quick that supporting the boat upside down requires a support board gunnel to gunnel. Otherwise, it deforms. I don't think this is a deal killer.
