Hydro foil?

Doubt it would work well, if you consider the speed diffrences from the moths to the laser the minimum speed you need for a laser would be a lot higher. moths take off at 7-8 knots, with a 30kg all up rigged weight. what's a laser? 74kg hull + atleast 20kg of gear.

Those things are awesome to watch in action, they travel at three times the speed of a Laser on a good reaching angle. I saw one blast through the lee of an entire Laser fleet one day. Of course he was alone, and we had another 40 boats to race against. :D
 
That's something I've been meaning to give a try - I thought of two hydrofoils attached to the hull by some means rather than to the foils. As wide as the waterline and maybe 4 or 6 inches below the hull, just enough to decrease the wetted area but not compromise steering etc.
Might get to build something over the winter... the trick will be to make it strong enough but light!
