Hull restoration

Hey everyone,

stop me if this has been posted before...

I got my fish for free over the summer. After a little polishing and replacing some lines, she sails beautifully. She's at my best guess from the 70s, no aft storage compartment, with a shadow daggerboard (i know....get rid of it)

Anyway, her previous owner patched up the hull with fiberglass and painted over the entire hull with blue, bottom, antitrace paint. I want to restore her hull to a traditional white gelcoat.

Have any of you done this? is there a certain brand i should buy? Is there a special removing method i should use or can I just sand her down and repaint her?

Thanks,
Dean

P.S. Any ideas for names would be greatly appreciated :)

Check Yahoo Sunfish Sailor, a similar question was recently asked. A paint remover/stripper is favored over sanding to remove the paint (sanding may go to far and remove the gel coat). Do a search on both sites for hull refinishing, paint remover, etc. Good luck.

Thanks. I still have to sand out a few resin globs on the bottom. I'll let you know how it turns out.

PLease keep any suggestions coming though :)
