how to keep daggerboard stop intact

Anyone have any trick for keeping the large plastic ends from popping off the inner threaded portion? Silicone sealant works for a little while, then gives up.

Or would there be a rules issue if I were to replace the standard part with a piece of PVC pipe + glued-on ends of the same diameter?

Note that the centerboard stop is a builder supplied part. However, the Class Rules (available online here) do allow you some options for fixing this problem, see rule 14, paragraph g.

What I've used successfully without failure is a waterproof contact adhesive
