Help with a bizarre radial sail...

Hi all.
I've been offered a radial sail, which had a really strange metal bracket with it.... The sail is open at the top of the luff tube (no webbing at the top), and it looks like the bracket is there to fit over the top of the mast, then you're supposed to tie the top of the sail to it.

I'm basically trying to work out roughly how old this sail must be, and even if Laser ever made them like that - ie is a genuine sail? I've never seen anything like it before!

Any help / comments appreciated!

Cheers.

Old redial was originally made to be halyard hoisted, then they came out wit that metal cage. You can just have a sailmaker sew a webbing strap over the top

We have a very old Radial sail at my local club that has the metal cage on it. I had to look very carefully (and measure the spars against a 'normal' radial before I was sure though!

Thanks for the help chaps. It is Radial (not M). The link you posted, 49208, was a great help in working out what it is.
Cheers again.
