Deck color: white or cream?

Hi again,

I read the thread about cleaning your boat and was interested by what Yaesumusen said.
He says that his deck was cream and turned white using some cleaning product.

Since I've seen a brand new Laser with a magnificent white deck I wonder if back in the eighties (mine is a 82) decks for cream or it's just that it's stained by time and use?

I'd like to get your opinion. Could I make it white really? What would you use?
I live in Canada.
Thanks

Since the colour is in the gel coat I doubt that you can bleach it to pure white. Early Lasers in the 70's had a cream colour deck, those in the late 80's (mine is a '88) is a light biege/greyish colour and those in the 90's onwards where pure white

my deck is not bleached white traffic film remover is a strong alkaline detergent used for cleaning cars vans lorries.it stings your hands and eyes so wear gloves .the pattern deck seems to trap dirt it looked a dirty cream colour when purchased. i used a strong solution of t.f.r on a sponge and then rinsed it off result gleaming whiter decks i perceive my deck is white i guess if i were to compare them to a newer boat i would see that they are not .

most products sold for boat cleaning are very expensive i bought 50 litres for £20 from a local guy who specialises in steam cleaners word of warning eats into alluminium so donot clean spars

Pascale,

I'm in the process of giving my Canadian made Laser a real good going over and my deck is a definate dirty grey. That is after cleaing it just short of it's life. I'm seriously considering painting it to give it a clean look. Mine is an 87

lasers have changed colour 4 times in the last 6 years here (performance sailcraft aus boats)

my 1999 is a greyish white, then 17xxxx - 177xxx was blue white, 17xxx-181xxx was off white/cream and from then on they are a more pure white
