Daggerboard/Centerboard questions

Hi, new to the Laser and would appreciate some input. I went sailing with a friend last weekend and his sons were sailing a boat similiar to the Laser. Make a long story short he turtled the boat and I noticed the centerboard came out and was floating nearby. Would this also happend if it was a Laser. Luckily we were nearby to help him retrieve it. Does the Laser centerboard float in the event it came out during a turnover? Thanks in advance. Mike.
 
i think it depends on the whether the shockcord is tight enough. mine ever came out once before and i ended up chipping a huge chunk of daggerboard off while uprighting the boat..
