clew strap

the laser I just bought doesn't have a clew strap with it. I don't see the need to buy the 20 dollar one I see online, namely at APS. Is it possible to just make your own out of some velcro and a metal ring? If so, is this class legal?
 
KAI ,i got by with a piece of cord then my wife broke her leg the velcro strap which held the foot onto her paster does the trick try your local casulty dept
