Clew sleeve gap?

In the photos I've seen so far of the clew sleeve, there is a gap between the boom and the sail - maybe 1/2" or so. We were always taught the clew has to be right down ON the boom. You can get it pretty tight with line or the velcro strap.

I like the idea of the sleeve. What are people's thoughts on how close the clew needs to be?

Thanks -

its fine

the good thing is that its consistent, and it doesn't stretch

I have used the prototype of the sleeve, and my determination is that its great for when i was training every day out on the water, because it was quick and easy, but when i went to a race, i felt more secure with the strap. It is definitely a great product, and unless you are winning every race, I don;t thing that 1/2 inch will make a difference at all. The added sanity of rigging quickly will move you forward in the pack.
