Can I machine wash original blue canvas mast/spar bag?

Hi everyone,
My father's spar/mast bag needs a good cleaning--can I machine was this? If so, on what cycle and with what soap? If not, what other way could I clean it?

DO NOT PLACE YOUR SAIL BAG OR SAIL IN A WASHING MACHINE OR DRYER....

There are a few posts and mentions of techniques and soaps to clean a sail which I would feel are appropriate for your sail bag as well.
 
Please take my previous (post) warning with regard to your sail. :eek:
Canvas is a whole different material than your sail and much tougher. Machine washing is possible for canvas and similar "awning" weight fabrics. I had a previous horror story with some delicate drapery :eek:( as my wife still reminds me) that made me jump to use capitalized text regarding machine washing your sail. The evil of a washing machine is if it has a center agitator. Large laundromat machines do not have one. I have found a site called Sailcare with some information on washing sails. Their site main page shows a worker pulling a sail from a large washing machine. I would have to guess from the "delicate cycle":rolleyes:.
