This announcement should have been made well before September of 2007.

Who was in charge of writing and publishing the NOR for the NA Grand Prix?

Who is responsible for the delay?

How can we possibly count the already sailed Midwinters East or any other regatta held before a North American Class Magazine is published and the Grand Prix NOR is properly distributed to the membership?

    Suggested Goal for 2009:

Publish the rules and individual venue NOR for the entire Grand Prix by September
    2008.

    Goal for 2010:

Publish the rules by January 2009 and make certain the NOR for the corresponding 2010 event is passed out at registration for each 2009 event. Whenever it is possible have the host of the 2010 event stand up during dinners or parties and the trophy presentation and personally invite the sailors to "Come join us at______ next year."

Meanwhile...Is the system for the 2009 world's berths allocations still unwritten and unpublished?
The campaigning sailors need to be able to plan not just for this week but for the entire year and in some cases for their three or four year campaign. We are making it not just difficult but, for those who cannot retroactively sail Midwinters East, IMPOSSIBLE to conduct a planned Laser sailing season.

The sport of Laser racing in North America cannot prosper with this continued, "Sometimes we have an organization. Sometimes we don't" system of government.

I don't get how you don't think the regattas weren't announced. The 2008 schedule has been on the official site for some time and looking back to Fall 07 issue of the Laser Sailor even has the major regattas listed and the grand prix points awarded for each. I think people know enough about the regattas.

As for the number of births, that would be worth knowing since many of us don't have a clue on how that works.

The Grand Prix is an event in itself. The NOR for the Grand Prix is the document which DEFINES the event.
Some Worlds Berths are usually assigned based upon Grand Prix results. The NOR for the Grand Prix was announced here on February 29.

Assuming we accept a website announcement as "Official Notice," The described Grand Prix had begun TWO months before the event was officially created.

As there are no currently available time machines, I find it totally unacceptable that the rules of the Grand Prix were not announced until well after the Grand Prix had begun.

    We absolutely MUST do better.

A bit of patience is necessary this year. ILCA has been in the midst of changing its system for everything to do with registering for any (and all) of its world championships and the dust only recently settled. While it appears that allocations are relatively unchanged, the timelines have changed dramatically and this affects which events are going to be used to qualify depending on what event you hope to go to. Now that the implications are understood Ben Richardson, Tommy Wharton and Sherri Campbell are hard at work on producing a system that will properly balance all the competing interests while still allow plenty of time to plan and it will be published very soon.

PS for some information on how the new ILCA system works go to the international class web page and read the info in the red box on the right hand side.

With respect to the world's berths, this nasty fellow who complains a lot will shut up for a while as is appropriate for the reasons described above and impatiently wait for those worlds berths qualification systems adjustments and notification actions described above.

I should we pay to schedule at the international level. No one in the world of Laser sailing can properly schedule when the ILCA is holding us back. We must insist the ILCA schedule worlds 5 yearss ahead so we can schedule our regional championships four years ahead and country championships three eyars ahead and allow district championships to have the needed two year advance scheduling so the VERY best venues can be secured.

Even with five year advance ILCA scheduling, some wonderful Laser racing venues will be unavailable for us as they require 3 or more years of advance notice to secure a place in their schedule.

The intolerance for announcing the NA Grand Prix after it has already begun and
the expectation of reasonable advanced notification for all future NA Grand Prix series still exists.
