I am new to sailing and I came to own this boat about a year ago. When I went to put it back in the water, the tiller and rudder are NOWHERE to be found. ( it is stored at a rental property). Any idea where I get a replacement and/ or if a sunfish one would work?
The Viking rudder hardware is completely different from a Sunfish. There are five bolts that hold the gudgeon in place (they are through the hull bolts, so only the nuts are visible). Danpal just cut up a Viking. He might have the rudder(or at least the hardware). http://www.sailingforums.com/threads/viking-sunfish-clone.30760/
You might be able to modify a Sunfish gudgeon to fit on the bolts of the Viking. I have a 1973 Viking. Let me know if you need any help with anything else.
Baseman, my Viking hull didn't include a rudder but it's interesting that the rudder was different because the rest of the boat was exactly the same as a Sunfish.
