Everybody that I sail with has a carbon fiber tiller and extension, as do I. But, after breaking yet another and having to fix it, I am beginning to wonder if carbon is really better. Aluminum isn't noticeably heavier, and it bends instead of shattering. Thoughts?

Got a friend of mine who wants to sell his laser, I think it's an 02, hull in good shape, bone-dry, spars and sail with one season or less, straight blades, stock lines, stock tiller/extension, dolly, wants to sell for ABSOLUTELY no less than $3500. Good deal or not so much?:confused:

During the pacific coast champs, a carbon composite topsection was available for testing by tracy usher and the like, i believe he said that he wasn't wild about it. I really don't think that it would be worth it with the increase in cost.

Going back to the original question, I often find myself in situations like this, and I have to agree with Ross: Ease, Hike, Trim. If you haven't planned ahead (oh no god forbid you should make a mistake) try letting out your mainsheet and steering down while throwing your weight out as hard...
If you have the time and money, put a trailer hitch on that van and buy a Kitty Hawk laser trailer. They're light and easy to handle and built specifically for the laser.
Interesting racing for those who were there on Sunday. About 40 lasers signed up, with over 180 small boats total! I didn't think it was that windy, mostly nasty chop and very low temperatures. I was shocked to find out that during our one race, only three RYC crash boats were on the water...
