Roll tacking/gybing in heavy air

I was thinking about past experiences and i was just wondering how much, if any?, roll tacking/gybing bennifits in heavy air. It seems to me that in air over 18knts, when i roll tack or gybe the boat seems extremely slow and hard to get back over. This led me to wonder if roll tacking or gybing in heavy air bennifits at all. Because, in theory, rolling is supposed to give you a boost, not a struggle to keep the boat from capsizing. Maybe this is just for me because even a radial rig is hard to handle in heavy air for my 100lbs. self...

Dont bother with roll tacks once your hiking to keep the boat up because you wont be able to pull it back up fast enough to get the benefit so you will go slower. Heavy air requires fast tacking on the tops of waves.
