Awlgrip versus VC teflon epoxy

I've read the threads here and on drlaser and on the laser list archives regarding bottom and foil treatment. Some people rave about VC underwater epoxy with teflon (VC 127 / 128) for foils.

I'm wondering why not to paint a whole bottom with this stuff? Seems it goes on as a thin layer right over gelcoat without a conversion layer (so less total paint, less added weight, easier application) -- and it's described as "rock hard" although I don't know how it compares with Awlgrip. I know you won't get the awlgrip range of colors or glossy looks, but otherwise, how does it compare?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

This is for a beater boat that needs to have something put onto the bottom to keep the water from soaking into all the Bondo, not for some esoteric performance enhancement to an otherwise fine bottom....
