I have had my bare for almost 4 yrs and no seals have been replaced, and they still look fairly new. The key is to saturate them with conditioner often and keep the zipper waxed.

The farmer john and seperate dry top sounds like a good idea too. If you get a rip in the top or you get too hot you can pull the top it off.
the bare is pretty tough though.

A loose top-snug bottom dry suit like the Bare polar dry is it is
alot more manuverable than any wetsuit I have used
and it is the warmest suit I have ever owned, you can layer under the loose top.
