Looking on YouTube for something else, I came across this series of videos showing a mast step repair from underneath the hull.
I have thought about doing this, but not seen it demonstrated before.
Has anyone ever done a repair this way and if so how did it work out long-term?
PSA are making a Gold laser for the 50th Anniversary Regatta being held this weekend and here are some photos:
I wonder if this previous gold Laser will be there?
It is good to see (in my opinion) that the sails are going to be provided again at the upcoming 2020 Worlds
It helps to bring the pinnacle of Laser sailing back to being between the sailors and not about the equipment.
Also, as an interesting aside - orange 4.7 sails - or just orange sail...
For those who like a bit of Laser history, I came across this very short clip from the 1979 Laser Worlds, which were held in Perth, West Australia in January 1979
I am fairly certain there was a proper 25 minutes film made of the event, which must be out there in a film library somewhere...
Ward Bell is mentioned in this thread
www.laserforum.org/car-topping-laser-t10350.html
so here is his story from the August 1984 North American newsletter

Sorry for reminding the predominantly American readership of this Forum of what must have been a painful time for them 25 years ago today.
However, especially for the Aussies and anyone in Australia at that time, it was a totally unforgettable experience.
The whole nation became instant...
There is an interview here with Performance Sailcraft Australia, the builders of the boats for the 2008 Worlds in Australia.
www.abc.net.au/centralcoast/stories/s2079171.htm
It's about 24 minutes long, but towards the end they do talk about the new Australian foils. There were "No Photos...
There appears to be some confusion about the difference between the Laser M and the Laser Radial rigs.
Both rigs were designed to achieve the same thing - a smaller, more easily handled sailplan for smaller sailors, however the two rigs were unrelated and went about their aim in very different...
The Australian Laser builder now seems to be selling a new type of foil.
www.lasersailing.com.au/raceparts/standard_foils/standard_foils.html
The implication is that they are legal - but also an improvement on the old white foils.
Does anybody know anything about these?
Seeing a picture of the Laser World Championship Trophy on Michael Blackburn's website www.sailfitter.com reminds me to ask, out of curiosity, the following questions.
Does anyone know what happened to the Bermuda Trophy and when and why did it stop being awarded to the Laser World Champion...
