pthayn & randy ricchi, I'm sorry i did not see your posts earlier. i have not priced the sail bag yet. my wife has a legit business in central fl. dealing with heavy duty materials mostly for the trucking industry. I made the bags as a personal project & thought there might be some interest. it...
zeppo, your right. the sail on the phantom is a little bigger than the sunfish. id never change anything. the phantom is almost an exact knock off of a sunfish so i wanted to know why the mast was more forward. the phantom sails fine. just wanted to ask
currently have a phantom & a sunfish and i took a bunch of measurements to see how the two stack up. from the transom everything is the same except the mast step. on the phantom it's 2.5 inches farther forward. any thoughts on how this may/may not effect the way the phantom sails? is this a good...
i made this at my wifes place of business. its my second one & they work great. holds sail/spars/mast in a bundle. 18 or 22 oz. heavy duty vinyl. thought i'd see if anyone is interested in having one made. there are different colors but light colors last longer in the sun.
great advice from everyone. thanks for your thoughts! one thing is for sure, you don't soon forget those high wind days. you'll learn a lot in a hurry (no choice). went out sat. with about a 15 mph wind & had a blast. everything worked perfectly. I wasn't ready for the big wind a week earlier.
well, i played hell getting out of the boat ramp area due to onshore winds & limited area for tacking. once i got out to open waters i was hitting a real fast reach. when i got close to shore and tried to tack i got completely stuck in irons. i regained sail but i could not go upwind at all. i...
67stang, how do you like sailing the phantoms? purchased a phantom jan. 29 and have not been in the water yet. i had a scorpion (heavy!). this phantom feels real light. I'm hoping for more performance. good blow expected tomorrow down here in FL. i'm ready.
recently bought a phantom and i'm not crazy about drain located under the bow handle. i'll have to flip the boat to drain it. does anyone know if i can put a drain in the transom? boat sounds hollow back there but i don't want to cut into a foam block.
skute, check out this article on a guy that seperated his deck/ hull & made large storage areas. (http://councill.home.mindspring.com/sbjournal/sunfish/sfish1.html). excellent drawings & speaks of cutting the deck/ hull with a hack saw blade(patience job) good luck & don't skimp.
just installed mast cleat, bullseye style fairlead & main sheet cam cleat so i'm dying to go and probably will. you don't have to be too brave in central FL
this is gonna sound like a joke but (pardon the pun). go out on a light day first & try sitting on the tiller & trying minute adjustments at first. tacking would be rough but you could cleat the main during tack.use your good hand to complete the tack.let the sail pull out to cleated lentgh(you...
Thanks, Papayamon2, understood. I was reading on windline( also found on forum) after first post about the scallops between sail ties. slowly but surely it all becomes clearer. I didn't understand that cunnigham & outhual were a means to de-power the sail. thanks again.
have been reading on the forum about cunnigham, outhaul,& vang. do i need to add these if i'm only sailing recreationally & off the deck.I did tie a vang on the last few outings. it did take out some wrinkles but am i flattening out the sail too much? also i'm 190 lbs sailer.
