Confused on age of laser 2

I just got an old laser 2. I am trying to find the age of the boat and after searching for the last three hours on here I am now not sure. The number on the transom is ZFS00531M80G. I am thinking it is a 1980 year but would like a second opinion.

I recently bought my first sailboat, a Laser 2. This is what I found on the Coast Guard site.

ZFS00531M80G

ZFS is manufacturer Les Voiliers Performance Inc
00531 is the serial number also used as sail number
M80G is date of manufacure 80 = 1980 G = Feb

I have a Laser I, that the serial number is the same except I am 88004. I think you are right on the year. My question is do we use the full 5 digits for our sail numbers? The new numbers are two digits for the year and 4 for the sail. I am confused and no matter how much research I do, I have not been able to figure that one out.
