Got Stalked By A Marine Carnivore While Lasering

Where was this? I bet he is semi-tame and often takes hand-outs from fisherman.
About 300 yards inland from the ocean on the Russian River near Jenner, California.

There's a harbor seal pull out about 200 yards from where this footage was shot on the river side of the beach where they come in from the ocean, haul out, sun themselves and sleep. The immature ones follow kayakers around for something to do.

This was the closest a seal has come to us in this area. We've had lots follow us in our kayak but not for this long. I think it was curious about this new craft with two big white thingys pointing down into the water (Laser bottom). When I first saw him, he was about a foot from the transom.

15 minutes later, the seal was still following us around. At which point we felt a big bump on the rudder... like we had hit something. Looked back at our wake to see a huge swirl. So either he decided to take a taste of the rudder to see what it was made of or he hit it by accident while swimming around under the boat.

Thought we might start trolling one of these around behind the Laser next time we are out there.

Excellent, Andy! And I like the soundtrack. I'm pretty used to the Harbor seals checking out my SUP board and Laser, but I
don't like the big bull Sea Lions so much. I had one put his huge maw up on my Laser transom once beneath the Golden Gate. He was as big as the Laser. Looks like I should have showed up at Jenner this weekend. I got skunked on wind at Tomales Bay, so took the board out for some long paddles.

That trolling camera looks interesting, too
