I am now 87 and due to COVID my trips to the lake have been curtailed but I was enjoying my sunfish till I was about 84 .With the more frequent capsize I found getting back in the boat was getting more difficult. The boat will still remain part of the cottage fleet for all the younger family to use.
I think I would be happy with adding mast cleat. Tail end of halyard down thru ring shown and secured to clam cleat. This would have rig stay with us in event of capsize.
Looks like nice boat.
This is my effort at a replacement. You will need a hacksaw, drill gun with 3/32drill and a file . For parts you need a 1/2 13 tpi hex head bolt full thread , 1/2in and 3/4in ‘o’ ring a piece of picture hanging wire.
Cut bolt 5/8in long , drill 3/32 hole up ctr. of bolt 1/2in deep. Heatglue wire...

Thanks for your prompt reply.Looking on the web the standard set screw seems to be 1/2 13 tpi so I will pick one up and try next time at lake. With COVID it might be still a few weeks but will let you know.
I cut noodle in half lengthwise and slotted each half. Snapped one on top of spar and one on end of boom. They snap tight and do not require any other fasteners.Never had a turtle problem & being 85 I end up in the water quite often
