What's the technical term for that exact moment just before you capsize and you know for sure you're going over?
I say several things to myself but none are printable here. Have fun with this okay.
Am sailing an older 'Fish' myself. It sounds like, by your descriptions, that your boat like mine is pre 1971. The give aways: old rudder system, lack of cockpit storage hole and more.
I'm guessing by the tone of your message that working with fiberglass will come easy to you, you sound...
The othre day when the deck plate, part of the rudder assembly, pulled free, I used those 'dry wall' moly's that are used when it's impossible to hit a stud behind dry wall sheets in home remodels etc. I had to slightly enlarge the holes in the deck to accomodate the moly and I dabbed epoxy in...
Kudos to Supercub. If you haven't noticed this sailor is right there with good advice and suggestions. Thanks are in order from us all. sooooo Thank You!!
Today I bought a nifty, clamp mounted light for twenty bucks. It's white and can be attached almost anyplace where you can use the clamp. There's a green unit as well I'm told. Takes two flashlight batteries and is rubberized and waterproof.
It's made by Fulton Industries, Wauseon, Ohio. My...
Although Your suggestions are perfect and I won't proceed with my plans to mount the brass bracket there is one more thing. I have never seen the wing nut assembly system. My boat is pre 71 and the rudder hold down system has been incomplete/broken ever since I've had it. I have, via various...
opinions please: re: the old style rudder with brass bracket, pins and related parts. Could I pull the long, vertical pin and then drill a couple or three holes in the brass bracket in order to mount same on the stern with epoxy coated screws. This I hope would eliminate the rudders tendency to...
From your discription it's hard to tell what the damage is like. It does though seem doubtful that you must repair from the inside out. I just 'did' a bad spot in the same place. I first cut a piece of fiberglass cloth approx. 3" larger than the damaged area. Then applied resin all over and...
Still stuck ashore as i await a kind wind that might pity me and sweep the damned seaweed away. If by tomorrow it hasn't been swept away I'll wade through it and get back on the water. I fear that I'll come down with some odd, rare and terrible disease from the awful stuff though.
I noticed on my board that in the past someone had cut out a one ince wide section, refitting that space with a new piece of what looks like oak but might be teak. They then nicely sanded the refit down until it matches the boards contours. Sounds like mucho work yet I think it might not be that...
There really isn't any need for replys but feel free. I guess I'm mainly just venting.
After a rather fiestly wind storm this past...what?.... Friday maybe, My beach is covered with 8' of rotting seaweed while an additional 10' clogs the water. I managed to pitchfork a narrow path to the water...
Books are for sure the best suggestion. Try too not to head off on the day's first sail with the wind, do the tough thing first and tack until you need to turn back and then run with the wind but don't go so far that you'll have to walk her back if you can't tack. Just play it safe over and...
Actually it was a Bruce Lee sort of thing-a Karate chop. I have noticed too that if you keep the filter clean it cuts way down on the fluff and the dryer even works better.
