If you test a bunch of Top sections that came from the fabricant in the same month(s) they will likely be similar in weight... but you will be surprissed if you start testing masts from different people and even more if you do it with the Europeans... Recently Vanguard Top sections are...

Hello all, I am currently sailing in Annapolis and I will be moving to Los Angeles for work reassons. I would like to ask some opinions / advice re: best place to sail/race Laser in Los Angeles ... is it ABYC? / Newport Beach ? How / Who to contact regarding joining local fleet / clubs...

-If you have no racing experience , sailing with someone who does will help you to build your racing skills. -To get better in laser racing you need to combine both boat handling / technique with general racing skills ... so while crewing might help the other ingredient is also fundamental...

You don't want your mainsheet to be short ... since you may want to go slighty over the 90 degrees on light wind conditions or if you can live with it.... I guess you need 12 meters and try not to loose control ...
