Something to ponder. If the goal is to get a couple of seasons out of the boat, maybe see if you can avoid removing the fiberglass. If the planks are ok and the fiberglass is water tight, maybe try to replace the ribs and then address the centerboard issue from the inside. Its too bad you...
Beautiful boat!! That's awesome. I'm a little jealous. Is it rude to ask what that set you back? looks like she sails as is. With a little paint and brightwork you will turn a gorgeous boat into a real head turner. Nice Job, good score.
I have a 4hp motor so I need registration and a safe boater cert in CT. If I were to sail her with no motor attached I would only need the trailer registered. And we want to see your Beetle!
I sailed a Beetle over the summer and fell in love. Wound up buying a catboat too. A Sturdee. Its Marconi not gaff but a catboat all the same. Pics of the Beetle:
Picked her up last weekend, in the process of getting trailer straightened out and starting on small easy things that need attention. Despite my best efforts at repacking the bearings before hauling the boat out, they didn't make it far before complaining loudly, so I am replacing the entire hub...
If you wear your PFD, chances of drowning are reduced. I just got started this year myself, a few months ago. You don't necessarily have to wait for lessons to get started, depending on your boat. If you get a single mast, single sail dinghy (laser, sunfish etc etc) you can read up and then...
I do not have a Sunfish, I do have a Topper. I have recently gotten into sailing myself. My first time out was in 10-15mph winds with gusts of 17-18. I had a very hard time trying to get used to the boat, and try to sail for the first time in that. I mostly capsized, and struggled. Since then...
Yes, Took her out last Saturday. All I managed was capsizing practice. Good news is its an easy boat to right. I am ground zero new to sailing dinghies. The day I went out it was 10-15 mph winds with 17-18 gusts with offshore winds. I rigged and launched into the wind, that part went fine. After...
Correct. I was happy to see the manufacturer carries parts for all vintages, so we will see what she needs after our maiden voyage. She has a parks and rec sticker on it from 1983, but other than being old and dirty when brought home, she is very much in tact with all parts and rigging hardware.
