Hi Everyone!

I have some good news and some bad news.

The Good News: The Laser Forum is moving to a dedicated server with more resources and potentially more features for the end user in the long run (including email participation similiar to yahoo groups for those interested).

The Bad News: The move is a very labor intensive process and will require the site to be down for hours at a time. The database is very large thus making it troublesome to move from server to server. If you recieve any kind of errors this Saturday and Sunday please do not contact us as we are aware and working on the problem.

I appologize for the downtime and look forward to seeing everyone back on the site Monday morning.

Feel free to post any questions you may have.

So the site will be available periodically? That's pretty amazing that you don't have to shut it down completely.

Merrily

Janet and all,

Yes, it is possible there will be windows when the site is viewable, but not completely transfered. There are a lot of variables at play, however if all goes perfectly it could be done with only one major outage.

Just to note, the site/server itself will always be online. I will put up some kind of simple text page explaining the situation. The forum software itself will give an error whenever it is accessed until the move is complete.

District websites hosted on the server will still be avaliable during the outage as well.

Maybe you could host the dr.laser stuff as well....

Too bad I got into lasers after that site was gone.

Hi Zac,

Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about drlaser. All the information is copyrighted by Shevy and there is nothing I can do to retrieve that information legally. I have offered Shevy free hosting and the offer is still out there. Now that we have our own server there is more than ample space for his site.

After the site move is complete I will resume work on the Help Desk section of the website. Our new admin Janet will also be helping in the process and we hope to get as much helpful info there as possible.

Thanks for your interest,
