Now that I have my dagger board and rudder stripped and sanded to about 180 grit, can anyone give me an idea about the best finish for them. They are a very nicely grained mahogany, no checks or cracks.

A very comprehensive selection of marine finishes can be reviewed online at the Jamestown Distributor web. ( http://www.jamestowndistributors.com )

Plug in the search word (Varnish)

Follow their How To's links at the bottom of the page to find all manner of tips and instructions.

I am partial to Interlux Schooner brand varnish. It has good IV protection and is easy to apply. It needs about 3-4 coats to get the best finish.
