New Winter Laser Series at Richmond YC - Mark Halman
Intro: The RYC Winter Junior Program includes a Laser group coached by Tim Stapleton and Mark Halman. We have encouraged adult RYC Laser sailors to join us in the afternoons for Short Course racing. Depending on the weather we run between 4 and 6 races. The youths benefit from having experienced sailors racing and the adults get in some fun racing/practice in the off-season.
New: We want to make this Short-Course Racing into a SERIES and to invite ANY Laser sailor to come and race at RYC on the Junior Program Sunday Afternoons – a total of 15 Sundays between October and March.
Details:
Cost: $50 for the whole series. $10 for an afternoon.
Sailing Instructions: Copies either on the Junior website or hardcopies prior to racing
Scoring: Similar to T.I. Your best 10 afternoons count. 3 bonus points for each afternoon you race. The plan is to post scores on either the TILaser or RYC website. We will make a Perpetual Trophy.
Weather: Unpredictable! However we will set races where we think the best wind will be. We will be ready to tow out of the Harbor at 12:45 pm.
Boat Storage: Dry storage is available to non –members if space is available For non-members who are interested in storing their boats at RYC, contact the Harbor Master directly at 510-234 6959.
Launching: Please use the metal ramp at the head of “B” dock and launch between “A” and “B” ( the El Toros use the Turning Basin). There should be plenty of space in the parking lot at the top of the metal ramp for rigging next to your car.
Sportsmanship: Please NO harsh language.
Participation is at the discretion of the race committee
Rules: We want the Juniors to sail to the limit of the rules. They learn best the hard way. . Note: Protests will use “instant justice”. The RC will DSQ for un-sportsmanly behavior.
Giving Help: Please try to give good advice to the youths – talking over issues after the racing really helps us all.

December 13, 20 Race until approx. 3:00 pm
January 10, 17, 24, 31
February 14, 21, 28
March 21 *earlier finish
Note: RYC Midwinter races are 12/6, 1/3, 2/7 and 3/7.
Food and Drink: The Bar will be open by the time racing finishes. The Dinning room opens at 5:30. Since this is a Junior day, we would encourage you to have your beers in the club house.
