What to look for when picking the side to take of a leeward gate?

i always am wondering what the most important thing to look for is when i am deciding which side of the leward gate to take? do you guys have any suggestions on what to look for?:confused:

Normally, pick the gate closest (upwind) to the finish. (If there is a fleet in front of you, ie full rigs @CPYC, watch and see if the majority pick one gate) If they seem fairly equal, the other considerations would be:
1. If one side or the other of the upwind leg is favored (current or wind advantage)
2. If you are behind a large group (3 or more boats) headed to one gate, and the other gate is empty (You need to make this decision at about 10 boat lengths out so you aren't sailing a lot of extra distance to get to the other gate)
 
Where the leaders are going

If it's about a 50/50 split, and the wind looks the same on the course, I will just go to the one with the least traffic, or if I have a overlap, i'll stay there.

Clear air (as always) is important
