weight ratio to gooseneck setting?

I was just wondering if there is a chart some where that tells you how far ahead that you can put your gooseneck for different wind speed? Is there a weight index [for the skipper] One that shows the weight ratio to gooseneck setting? It would be nice knowing before hand, instead of trial and error!!! But maybe that would be the best teacher!!! Trail and error is sooo slow a process!!!!!

David,

Weight has nothing to do with the gooseneck setting as the weight (you) is always moving and can be shifted fore and aft to trim. Wind strength does aftect the gooseneck setting. The range from the tack is about 12" to 24" (these are extreme) with the average about 16" in light wind and further back around 20"-22" for heavier winds. Halyard placement on the upper boom (high or low sail) will also affect where the gooseneck is positioned. You will still have to experiment to see what works for you, everyone is different.
