Water in the hull

On the Water
I didn't think my Viking leaked, but I can't figure out how the water in the hull got there. Last week I did something I don't normally do. I left the boat on the lake where I race, rigged and uncovered. We had some heavy rains during the week I left it there. When I got up there last Sunday, the cockpit had about 3" of water in it. The only thing I can think of is (based on the angle the boat was beached), is that water got into the hull through the coaming. The coaming is not flush with the deck (40 year old boat), but I find it hard to believe that a gallon of water could seep in through the coaming.

I've had the same thing happen. The boat is left rigged, as yours was. I think the rolled sail is "watertight-enough" to direct rainwater into the cockpit. (The lowest point of the sail).
