vibration on starboard tack

I picked up a 1973 sunfish last summer and did some quick fiberglass patch work to see if it was worth fixing up. It handled fine and stayed dry but I noticed on a starboard tack when she heels I get a low tone hum which I believe is coming from the dagger board or well. Has anyone ever experienced this and any suggestions on eliminating it? Thanks.

Daggerboard hum is not unusual. Careful fairing of the board may fix the problem, but for casual sailing, it isn't worth it, IMHO. You can also tape the daggerboard slot.

My 3 year old calls that hum "the boat is singing to me", and he really likes it when his boat is singing; ie a little speed.

I have read that board vibration is usually due to too sharp a trailing edge on the board. May want to blunt it up a bit and add trunk liners on leading edge and along the chord if your board is not too thick.
