Using a utility trailer

Greetings.

When I bought my starfish last summer I built a couple of cradles to carry the boat. They bolt on using locking wing nuts. The cradles are 2x6 studs glued and screwed together and covered with outdoor carpet. Now I can off load the boat in the garage when I need to use the trailer for other items. Just an option for anyone who already has a utility trailer.

I ratchet mine to the roof rack on my jeep liberty. You could built two smaller cradles cover in no slip material that sit on the deck and then lay the spars across those and ratchet that whole mess to the trailer. I may just build those myself and get a large tube to put them in.

Nice rig, what size is the trailer? Now you have room for coolers, bikes, a kayak etc...

Spars could strap to top of boat or to the bunks.

I went the opposite route, and decided to carry my "utility" stuff on my double stack Sunfish trailer. I plan to get a 4x8 sheet of plywood to make a flat surface that sits on top of the bunks if needed, but so far a few extra crosswise 2x4s have done the trick. The uprights provide great spots to tie things down.

So after the question of where do I put my spars. I whipped up these two chocks that hold the spars. Actually this will be easier than tying them to my roof racks on the jeep.
