upper>lower mast rigging

Is there a trick to sliding the upper/lower mast pieces together? The smaller piece on the connector goes in fine, then it stops. I don't want damage it. Am I missing something? It's my first time assembling this type of mast. Thanks.

Unless there is an obstruction in there, they should just slide right together.
Most of us find there is TOO much space between then, so we put a little tape around the plastic fittings.

Make sure both masts are right in line with each other, hard to do it if one is at an angle.

But, yeah, they should just slide right into each other.

I'd also check that the bottom cap on the upper section is fully seated in the upper section and firmly rivited in place (no play in the rivits) This usually only causes problems taking them apart, but worth checking.

Thank you all for the info/insight. This is a great group to be a part of.
I have #387 that I found as a "stray" at our club's "debris pile". She is in decent shape. I'm sure I'll have questions as I slowly resuscitate her.
Thanks again
