I posted this in the Laser forum, but usefull for my Sunfish too. Basically interchangeable now since it just depends on which dolly I pull onto the trailer. I

Well, I have a Laser and Sunfish, actually 2 of each. My son is getting into racing it which means we will be traveling with it over distances. Since we have dollies for each, I was looking at the Right On trailer but those are not in stock for a while. So I went to the drawing board with my friend who is very handy and he helped me fabricate these changes on my existing trailer that is really made for a Jon boat. We fabricated steel channel pieces that lock into the dolly frame material. This design really locks the dolly in place. Thoughts?

I do plan to fabricate a frame to affix to the trailer that will support a second boat on top but upside down. But I want to try this one out first.

I like the solid connection points. how is this loaded on the trailer? dolly and Laser/Sunfish lifted as one? or dolly lifted in place first, connected down, and then the hull lifted and set on the dolly?

You roll the boat on the dolly up the rollers, then lift the dolly up an inch and it slots in. The connecting points are locked in with PTO pins. I am thinking of adding a little ramp like piece at the wheels just before the slots so we won't have to do the final lift. I need to paint up the parts and add glue in some inner tube into the steel lockdowns so it doesn't damage the aluminum dolly frame.

After that, it will be time to test it out.

OK, was trying it out in my back yard. loading is pretty straight forward.

Unloading, I need a way to secure the boat to the dolly so I can lift the boat and have the dolly move with it. Any ideas how to do that at the stern end?

The loops on the black plastic that holds the straps are there for tie down. Tie line to the loops so the back of the boat will be held. Tie the front of the boat to the trailer.
