Two adults in a Sunfish

For recreational sailing, is it feasable to sail with two adults in a Sunfish? Does anyone have any tips or tricks for making it more comfortable? I was a longtime Sailfish sailor and always sailed alone. Last year I purchased a Sunfish and joined the class but I have only taken it out by myself. It seems like two could fit on board, however it feels like tacking may be a little difficult with the position shifts. Any ideas?

Thankyou,

Will

I've gone out with another person before. We sit opposite of each other (diagonally), with the other person facing me. That way, they're never in your way. It may not be very comfortable to them with little boom clearance, but you should be just as comfortable as usual. I've also taken two adults with me before. Come to think of it, I've never gone out by myself! (I got my sunfish right before the season ended last year).

Thankyou Macie

So as I understand it, you are not sitting exactly on the Stern end of the cockpit, but rather on either the Port or Starboard side but near the stern?

Oh - this is too tempting to pass up on. Two adults out for recreation? And you want advice on comfortable positions?

No - I mustn't - there are children reading this forum. Suffice to say that "Seagulls on the Wing", "Butterflies in Flight" and "The Wife of Indra" have been recommended by an expert in this field.

But you won't find the pictures in the Sunfish Bible.

I am shocked.

Not only did you post a link to a website with a picture of a half naked woman. But this disgusting site also includes a claim that their product will "get you round the boys faster" and a reference to an apparently pornographic publication called "The Leg" which carries some kind of "performance tips".

Let's keep it clean please.

This is going way off the deep end. I've sailed with 5 adults, including myself, for a short channel crossing. Suffice it to say I've also experienced experiences with an adult female passenger onboard. Yes, I had an auto-pilot system functioning. Not sure what the Sunfish bible has to say about this. I've yet to see a copy. All posts are from real life experiences.

TO actually give some advise, having the sail in what's called the recreational sailing position with the lower boom apx 24-28 inches off the deck rather than the racing position of right on the deck makes it much more enjoyable with two folks on board when it comes to tacking and gybing.
back in th 60's relay races were common where we'd sail a leg, pick up a passenger, and keep it up until in some extreme '"races" we'd have 7 people in all positions on the fish crossing the finish line.

This discussion reminds me of that scene in The Graduate when Mrs Robinson reveals to Benjamin where she and Mr Robinson experienced experiences (to quote an earlier post in this thread). Benjamin splutters....

"So old Elaine Robinson got started in a Ford".

Anyone on the forum want to own up to getting started in a Sunfish cockpit?

I'm going to stop myself from answering Old Geezer's last question!!!!
What an opening! It's too much like shooting fish in a barrel!
