Tiller dimension and passenger

Anyone knows what should be the dimension of a tiller + tiller extension to be comfortable when sailing with a passenger. I have a Ronstan carbon tiller that is much too long (tiller 39" and extension 46")

What is the dimension of a standard genuine wood tiller + the extension ?

The length of my wood tiller is 44 1/8 inches, 1 1/8 by 1 1/6 tapering down to 1 by 1 square to fit into the rudder. It's longer than my carbon tiller. The tiller extension is about 2 feet, ( when retracted) from the end of the tiller.

Allright, so yours is about 68" (44+24) and mine is 85" (39 + 46), it's a big difference of 17 inches !

I shortened up a tiller for carrying a second person. The tiller is 34 inches and the extension is 36. It works fine though we've never raced in tandem. With a little practice you can tack without clubbing your crew.
