Would it be legal to cut some wood off the top side of my tiller to reduce the profile? I have a ash tiller

For what you could shave off and remain confident in it, it's not really worth it.
Be as well to get a used carbon stick if you want a tighter traveller and save the woodie for emergencies.

An ash stick from the seventies compared to a gorilla tiller from the nineties, not much difference at the traveller junction

The same bit of wood compared to a new carbon stick at the same junction

Be aware, the top edge of the tiller must be straight. As specified in Rule 16(a)iii and taking into account 16(b)
