Sunfish bow handle

My old bow handle prettymuch corroded off my boat. I think it was alluminum plated chrome. So Im wondering if they changed it to stainless. Because the new one I have seems heavier. anyone know if it has changed.

From similar experience to yours I'd say the original handle was perhaps brass with a chrome plating. In the '60s it went to a chrome plated sintered metal (powdered metal injected into a mold and cooked at high temp until it became a solid)..., often referred to as "pot metal".

I haven't bought a bow handle in a long time, but if there was a change to stainless it probably went along with the other upgrades and changes of the late '80s and early '90s. Is your new handle attracted to a magnet? Most grades of stainless are only weakly attracted.
