Hard to see, maybe.

What were the other boats? Our Day Sailer is a planing hull around 98, with a Sunfish being 114ish.
I'm not sure what kind of boats the others were. Also, my service here in the boathouse is spotty and the photos intended for the above post didn't download. My apologies, I'll try to delete and clean them up.

When it comes to Portsmouth numbers, I read that a Laser was 91.3, a Banshee was 94.3, the Cyclone was like 96.1 and the Sunfish was 99.6. I also saw different numbers like you stated Signal. Hmmm, wondering what I saw

Creeping closer to sailing. Skipper's occupational therapy on the 4th included raising PHOENIX's sail twice. She also climbed into the cockpit and pulled on the sheet a few times, then got out, all by herself. The Granddaughter tailed the halyard as the sail went up and was watching with rapt attention to every detail. With her back injury Skipper has to avoid being bending over and pulling, so the Geezer Rig might go even higher. We'll target a light wind day on our shoal bay, for some ghosting to get her back on the water.

Slow and steady, Skipper, and don’t hesitate to let your first mate do the lifting. Glad the sailing has been worked into your PT!
Mine too, I guess. I’m heading over to view and hopefully purchase a 1980’s Sunfish and trailer. Pics and story to follow
P.S. Don’t tell Signal Charlie, he thinks I need to finish the pram!

One more to add to the fleet. I’ve always loved the blue deck and this ‘72 appears to be in great shape. Lightweight, no ports, new style rudder. Working De Persia bailer. Dagger and rudder are in rough shape with a couple shark bites but they can be restored, there are no cracks in the rudder.
The trailer is solid but bunks and brackets were rotted so the seller delivered it across town for me.
I was careful to check the spars on this one and they’re like new!
For $500 I think I got a good deal.

Nice looking boat, as you may know, we're partial to that color scheme :) We added double-double stripes to Skipper's 1965 Alcort and the 1984ish Riviera sail.

I had a blue-decked Sunfish once before and regret selling it. The sail was one I’ve not seen before or since.
Also probably the ugliest boat I’ve ever bought, but it just needed some love. See before and after pics.

Got our Sunfish and Minifish out on Lake Michigan this afternoon. Me and two of my sons took turns solo sailing the boats. Not super breezy but a beautiful day on the water.

I don’t think Sunfish sailing can get any better than this. I was out with our daughter recently just having fun. I moved the halyard from the racing position to have more room for us.
She sailed last Friday with my wife during our club’s Sunfish races and loved it. She also enjoys sailing Optis in the junior program, but I don’t think I will try sailing with her in an Opti. LOL

Nutshell Pram teak thwarts dry fit. Daggerboard trunk fitting coming up soon, she'll use a repurposed Sailfish board, seen hiding behind the aft thwart. Per design the daggerboard and rudder stow back there.

In other news, we have been commissioned to write a boat review on the Sunfish for Small Boats Magazine, they are finally ready for an article on the World's Beast Boat. What's your favorite thing about the Sunfish?

3 minute setup time...if that.
Low cost " hobby".
My '69 is still viable.

Cons: two adults is really too much....especially in high winds and white caps. Really a one person boat.

Each bunk has a single bolt. Is that designed so each bunk can automatically adjust to the hull?
Sorry, I have been away from the forum for a while. Yes the single bolt allows it to swivel.
Here is the full rig all built on a Harbor Freight trailer and pulled behind a Prius. I know, it looks like The Beverly Hillbillies, but it gets the job done.
I drove from NYC to Buffalo NY (400 miles) with no problems. Even towing all this the Prius got about 35mpg.

The French Door Fairy paid a visit to Lewis Boat Works. Lighting and ventilation are much improved, and Skipper can Skippervise from a shady spot now.

The Pram will officially float now, and it has a keel. Fairing coming up next

Also got the Race Committee boat ready for early Fall mess abouts.

We had to dig out a few Alcort parts and that turned into a whole day of boat and car washing. It's dry and dusty here in Virginia. The Alcort crowd is eyeing the runabout with suspicion.

Skipper let me borrow her tractor to move a few trailers around.

I solved the trailer dilemma. Returned the Harbor Freight Trailer and swung by Northern Tool for this Carry On 6x12. Here's the Trailer Trials back at the casa to make sure the ramp angle was good, it was, no bottom scraping.

This looks so much easier!!! I have the Harbor Freight fold up model. It’s folded up in my garage, but I’ve never tried attaching and pulling it. After hiring out to a Dad/son combo to repack the bearings, I just didn’t have the wherewithal to figure out how to put a sunfish on it securely.

It is so much easier. And takes up so much more room. My concern with a folding trailer is that it will try to return to its folded state at inopportune times. You could store your Sunfish on the Carry On...

Rats! That so much more room thing....but a mid-drive fold? Double rats!

OMG! Is that a Carver in the pic on the right???

Hey guys,

Has anyone heard of BigFish made by Island Packet? I just bought a 2007 model and trying to restore it. Where do you get parts for it or any information at all for that matter? Scouring the Web and can't find anything short of basic info in sailboatdata.com and few pictures here and there. Sent an e-mail to Island Packet customer service, no answer yet. Thanks!

Alan sent us a daggerboard trunk plug for the Nutshell Pram, a retired Alcort Sailfish daggerboard. He cut off the bottom 22 inches and kept that, if anyone needs a bottom half. The Pram will also have an alcort snap shackle, halyard cleat and Alan also sent 4 more halyard cleat to be used as dock line cleats...for tiny dock lines. I considered using the very old screw in sheet blocks that were used on wooden booms, but that much bronze might sink the boat.

It's almost time to start the Fall Sailing thread, based on what we are seeing in our back yard.
