I note that I am closing in on sailing my Laser 1,000 times. As of today, it's 950, and if my increasing desire to use it continues, I should hit the 1,000 mark by the beginning of next year. Since I bought the boat in 1982, I know those numbers don't boil down to a great many per week or month, but it is still the only sailboat I've ever owned and it has followed me (well sometimes I follow it...) through four moves from salt to fresh and back to saltwater homes, and the more I sail it, the more I learn, and the more I appreciate and grow with it. I have raced exactly two times.
This boat is for me a fulcrum. A means to get connected between the sky and sea: the atmosphere and the planet. I get to steer this little machine and ride between these two great forces.
