Shaping Mahogany Daggerboard

thinking about shaping my own daggerboard, about 2.5 ft by 4 inches for use on kayak with sail.

Ive never worked with shaping Mahogany - is it easy to shape? gonna buy a board about 3 ft by 4 in by 1.25 inches and need to shape the foil and cylinder shaped handle. Doesnt need to be perfect.. any ideas on how to do this??

I'm in the process of refinishing a few Sunfish daggerboards and rudders that are mahogany. I've been able to shape the board fairly well with a block plane. I'm not sure if my really old mahogany would work differently than a brand new piece, but you might give that a try, and then follow up with a random-orbit sander and work your way up through the grits (60, 80, 100, 120, 150, etc.).
