Sealing the eyebolts?

It seems it would be a good idea to seal the interlocking eyebolts to that the boom and spar don't fill with water if the boat turns over.

Has anyone ever tried to do this?

Maybe a waterproof plug inside the spar and boom, just downstream the holes for the eyebolts would be a solution?!

Unless you turtle the poor fish, the eyebolts will stay dry upon capsizing. And even if you do turtle, it takes quite a while for the spars to fill with water, unless you have a gaping hole somewhere.

But I don't want to slow down progress and encourage you to experiment.

All the spars I’ve seen have cork plugs behind the eyebolts, but, they tend to dry up and shrink which allows a tiny bit of water to get in if you tip over. I think it’s a good idea to fill the end cap with a resin/filler mixture and then through drill holes for the eyebolts. This allows you to seal the cap and also allows you to tighten the eyebolts more without crushing the spar.

I may do that. Would like to find a rubber or cork plug of the right dia. and caulk that just inside the end, then don't worry about the eyebolt.

anyone know the Inside dia of the spar/boom?

How about just spraying some expanding foam in the ends?
