Sailfish Timeline

Thread starter #1
From what I've read the Sailfish/Super Sailfish MKII was made between 1959-1975. I've got a Super with a serial number on the deck plate 67908. I assumed it was a '79 based on this number, but guess it can't be later than a '75. Is there a timeline that would tell me the year of my boat?

Beautiful boat, love the green, can you turn down the shine on that a bit?! 59000-70000 were 1969 serial numbers.

Timeline courtesy of the Yahoo Sunfish_Sailors group files, amazing information in the Files put together by Wayne Carney sail231 and the crowd. Wayne crossed the bar late 2010, Keith had the group for a while and passed it along to me 2013ish.

Thanks, SC. I saw that timeline but didn’t know it was for Sailfish, too. The yahoo site has some great info, for sure.
That beautiful 1969 SS is on craigslist now. I wish I could keep them all, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day or enough square feet in the garage. I sold two Sunfish last week. Now the lawnmower doesn’t have to sit outside!

If you like, share the CL listing and we'll put it on our facebook page.

I'm embarrassed to say that we actually have one car in our garage while some of the boats are still outside. The Queen of the Fleet, Skipper's Drascombe Lugger, has the other comfy spot inside. New van sits outside.

I've seen what your "outside" looks like and am envious! But I suppose my limited space keeps my sailboat fleet somewhat manageable. Now I'm down to two Sunfish, two Sailfish, three Minifish and a West Wight Potter 15. (I won't mention all the boats without sails!)
The goal is to get the Potter in the garage this winter. My car has never had such coveted space.
Thank you, Signal Charlie, for sharing my CL listing! Here's the Sailfish for sale:

BreezeB, great photos on your ad. I'd mention that she is the fiberglass MK II model, low maintenance. Also could mention that they make very stable SUPs with 300 pound capacity. Listing is up, pictures are doing something strange right now, we'll watch them to see if they settle down. Much like this Forum, which has been in and out the last few days on Chrome.

Wow, thanks SC for spreading the MKII word on your site! I truly appreciate it. Good advice on the additional info for updating my ad- the SUP popularity is HUGE around here. Personally, I don’t get it, but people (and their dogs) seem to love them. I get to work on my navigation skills trying to avoid them as they’re always hanging around the boat launch.
One day I’d love to meet all of you forum friends. Until then, these ‘virtual relationships’ have been very fulfilling!

You're welcome. FMI: Facebook Small Boat Restoration

We should start a Regional Mess About for Forum folks, maybe an Annual that moves Region to Region. Instead of Notice Of Race (NOR) we could publish the Notice Of Mess About (NOMA). Until then...

Manageable fleet? What's that? You just need a Marine Traffic Control Board, color coded, to keep track and make sure the boats get rotated fairly. The top boat has been out the most recent, so boat at bottom is next unless it is upside down. Upside down means the boat is hard down for maintenance, Not Ready For Float (RFF) or signed off yet with a Functional Check Float (FCF) or Sea Trials. In the case of ROSE, she hasn't been built yet but we have part of a keel.

I added it up, I thought we had slimmed down to under 200 feet of boats, but we are at 210 right now counting CHIP...not counting ROSE...but then again, she is taking up 16 feet of space in the Carriage House....okay, so 226.
