sail numbers

I was at a regatta and noticed that alot of people had drawn in their sail numbers with some kind of marker rather than buying numbers. Anyone know what kind of marker is used for this? Thanks.
 
Any permanent marker will work, a Magnum44 made by Sanford makes short work of the job

HOWEVER, to be legal, the numbers can not be inked on any sail purchased after June 1 1993......
 
I disagree - very few would buy an inked on sail for racing since they can't change the number, so that leaves those buying the sail for practice or informal racing only where the number doesn't matter. I just sold an inked on sail to someone else for practice and that wasn't a factor in the price at all.
