How much better are the class legal North sails than the practice sails from Intensity and Sunfish Direct? There is a substantial price difference between the class legal sail and others. I would like to race competitively in the local fleets but not necessarily in sanctioned regatta's. From what I have read, the North sail is one foot longer on the foot of the sail and one foot less on the luff and leech.

I have not seen a difference in the sails, at least not a reason to justify $460 compared to $125. The dimensions are all the same for any one of these sails. The Intensity is as close to a race sail as possible meaning the luff curvature and dimensions similar to the North. I don't have any experience with the SD sails. I have owned APS, Ltd and would say that their colored sails have less shape than the Intensity. I'd get the Intensity and if you don't like it buy the North and keep the Intensity as a practice sail or recreation sail.
